The Chatelaine's Scottish Castles

Brahan Castle

near Dingwall, by Inverness

photo

Photos reproduced by kind permission of Gordon Douglas Duffus

The site of Brahan Castle is located 3.5 miles south-west of Dingwall which is north of Inverness on the east coast of Scotland.

The original castle was built by the Mackenzies in the 17th century but was demolished in 1953. The famous Brahan Seer (Coinneach Odhar) had prophesised that the family would lose everything and this indeed came to pass. The Clan Mackenzie Society (UK) has full details about this castle and the clan. It is hoped that a new Clan Mackenzie Centre will be built on the Brahan estate.

A house was built out of the old stables.
