The island of Harris is the ideal place to get away from it all
and here on the west coast you can experience the many facets of the magic
that makes people return to the Hebrides time after time.

Our B&B has a unique setting: in the front garden we have a Neolithic chambered burial cairn and close by there are two sandy beaches. You can walk over the machair to stroll along Horgabost beach picking up shells and gazing at the turquoise ocean or you can head over to Nisabost beach and climb up to Macleod's standing stone from where you can see the island of Taransay.

With its magnificent sea and mountain views, our house is situated approximately 12 miles from Tarbert and 9 miles from Leverburgh. We have 2 rooms: one single and one family (which comprises a double bed and a single bed). Prices per person per night are 23 pounds for B&B. Both rooms have their own tea and coffee making facilities. There is a bathroom upstairs and a shower room downstairs. TV available in the lounge.

To make your reservation, please call +44 (0) 1859 550 215. We are open from May to October. Pets accepted by arrangement.

Lots of places to visit and things to do!

Luskentyre There is a choice of beautiful beaches throughout Harris and those at Horgabost and Nisabost are within walking distance of the house. To the north stretch the endless (and often empty!) sands of Luskentyre.
Travel around the south of the island and you will find more deserted beaches and standing stones. At Scarista there's even a golf course by the sea. Rodel Church on the south-east tip of Harris was built around 1500 and is well worth a visit. Not only is the structure of the building well-preserved, but so are the sculpted tombs inside. Those with a head for heights can climb to the top of the tower! Rodel Church
The Bays Along the east coast you will experience a different sort of scenery where the land is strewn with rocks like a lunar landscape indented by hundreds of little bays and lochs. On a clear day you can see from here over to the mountainous Isle of Skye.
Explore the rocky northern parts of Harris and pass Amhuinnsuidhe Castle on your way to Huishnish beach and the tiny island of Scarp. There are some wonderful hill walks in this area and you can climb Clisham, the highest mountain on Harris. Amhuinnsuidhe Castle

Travelling further north you can cross the border into the Isle of Lewis where the stone circle clusters around Callanish are not to be missed.
Callanish standing stones
Although there are many standing stones throughout the Hebrides, these are by far the most impressive. A short drive from there is the Iron Age broch at Carloway which is another important historical site.

The landscape and history of both Harris and Lewis will absorb you, but don't forget there are also lots of interesting events happening throughout the year such as local gala days, agricultural shows, highland games, art and music festivals. And of course the islands are the place to go shopping for genuine Harris Tweed!

Many visitors reach Harris by ferry from the Isle of Skye to Tarbert or from Ullapool to Stornoway on the neighbouring Isle of Lewis. If you are island hopping you can also cross to Harris from North Uist. The Caledonian MacBrayne web site has all the current ferry timetables.

You can also fly to Stornoway from Inverness, Glasgow, London, Barra, Benbecula and other destinations. British Airways has an online searchable timetable.

You can hire a car from several companies on Lewis. Regular buses operate from the ferry terminals at Tarbert (capital of Harris) and Leverburgh (south Harris) 4 or 5 times a day from Monday to Saturday (no buses on Sundays). These buses pass our house. There are also bus connections from Tarbert to Stornoway (capital of Lewis).

More details on travel and sightseeing are given on the Harris Page of The Internet Guide to Scotland.
